Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 2: Apollo

shin megami tensei: persona 2 - apollo

While his initial Persona is Vulcanus, Apollo is the ultimate Persona of the game's protagonist, Suou Tatsuya. Due to an incident that led to his father’s forced resignation from the police force, Tatsuya has been estranged from his family for quite come time. Little is known about his family aside from him having an older brother named Katsuya.

Awesome cosplay! Really love the detailing of the armor here, and the angle for the photography is quite interesting as well! Thanks to Syaza for sending this!

Good morning my dears, I hope you all had a fabulous weekend... !?
Mine was filled with some much needed spring cleaning. It was so good to open all the windows and let the fresh spring breeze blow the wintry cobwebs away. Oh and the whole place filled with that wonderful smell of clean laundry drying in the sunshine, so lovely... :)
I did get a whole pile of crochet done too but it wasn't all work, there were lazy mornings with breakfast in bed and long dog walks around Arthur's Seat... :)
With that and the glorious blue skies we have over Edinburgh this morning I'm feeling light and fresh and quite excited about some of the crochet projects I have planned for this week... more about them later though... :)
Until then I hope you're enjoying my 'all colours in' picks for today!? Some pretty pastels with a lovely vintage spring vibe going on... :)

Happy, happy Monday to you all... !
Emma, x

Glamorous, intellectual and ecofriendly jewels: Amoronia

Every Amoronia piece is truly special, with a character of its own - one of a kind or made in very limited numbers.

What you see here is the result of her efforts to recycle as much as she can, at the same time ensuring the quality and personality of every piece she make, without compromise.

Her name is Demi. In Greek it means 'Earth Mother'. When she was five, she made her first necklace out of mud, and by the time she was eleven she had already designed her first jewelry line.

Because she care about the world, and because she like a nice challenge, her inventory consists mostly of old pieces of jewelry, things that people bring to her, found objects, old clothes or accessories, vintage buttons, papier mache, bamboo, old books, magazines and so on.

Both ideas and sensations inspire her. For her, cheap things like buttons and found objects can be as precious as expensive stones. Everything is in the idea or the sensation the final piece conveys, in the message it communicates, and mediums are just tools.

My L'Auberge Weekend in Review

What is 140 miles away from Houston, TX?  What feels worlds away from Houston, TX?  What can give you a much needed break from your life?  Yes, you guessed right. L'Auberge du Lac Casino and Resort.

*picture from Flickr

Byron and I took off around 4pm on Friday. We did not go directly to the resort because we needed to drop Max off at his babysitters for the weekend. This added a good hour to our trip. Houston rush-hour on a Friday can be a Bitch.  We rolled into the resort around 8:30pm, hungry and tired.  This is what greeted us (after Valet parking because we new we would not be seeing our car again until check-out):

IMG_4242
These two wonderful ladies helped get us check-in and this in my hand right away:

L'auberge EMBER Grill & Bar
*taken w/ iphone

My new favorite cocktail (mixed berry martini) from the Ember Grille & Bar. Cindy was our exceptional server so be sure to ask for her.  This was by far one of the best meals I have eaten in awhile. In fact, we ate at Ember's both nights.

I am not sure on the theme of the casino. It was western, Texan, lodge, all rolled up into one. Think cattle paintings, Lincoln Logs, browns, iron work, antler chandeliers and bears. Not my favorite of themes. I am partial to lighter and brighter but the casino does pull off the decor without being hokie.  One of the things that does stand out more than anything else is how nice the employes are at this resort. Everywhere we went, we were greeted with smiles and offers of assistance.  Everyone was incredibly approachable.

Our Room:
*picture from Flickr, not my actual room but close

Our room was simple (#555).  Good bed, linens and pillows.  Most importantly the room was cold and dark.  I had packed a small floor fan and was very happy to have it. The doors are very heavy and you can hear slamming all night long. The fan (& alcohol) took care of most of the noise. The TVs are in need of updating to flat panel but we did not watch much TV.  As always, there could be more electrical outlets. Our room had this small wet bar that maybe at one time contained a mini-bar/refrigerator.  I am not sure on it's purpose now - other than looking dated and non-functioning.  No robes or slippers.

*picture from Flickr, not my actual bathroom but close

The bathroom was also simple.  I was surprised that there was not a tub, just a shower with a glass door.  The shower was in need of a good scrubbing. There was mold in the grout that I was able to scrape with my fingernail (gross).  Also, one of my pet-peeves is when a shower does not have a bench or ledge to prop up your foot for leg shaving and the toilets are crazy loud.  All-in-all it was fine (I am just picky!).

Time Spent:
My favorite time was spent pool-side. Yes, pool-side. It was about 75 degree this weekend and the pool was heated.  I was completely rejuvenated after a trip to the Spa (hands/feet/head massage) and several hours in the sun!

IMG_4252
*those are my toes

There was also food/drink service poolside (great strawberry daiquiris).
IMG_4257

The casino floor is surprisingly large.  Even so, smoke is thick and overpowering. I don't ever recall The Venetian or Mandalay Bay's casinos being this heavy with smoke.  Also, the table limits are ridiculously high (nothing under $25).  A poker room is suppose to be coming the 3rd quarter of this year.
*picture taken from Flickr, photos are not allowed on the casino floor

We charged everything to the room for 2 nights and dropped about $1000 (not including what we lost gambling). This included 2 spa treatments, 2 dinners at Embers, pool side drinks/appetizers, room service breakfast, $30 straw hat, 2 bottles of water, 1 scoop of ice cream and 1 chocolate mousse.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
One last shout-out to two fabulous people who made this trip really fun and worth returning for:
KIRK HOUSER, Casino Marketing
SOCIAL MEDIA SPECIALIST, whoever you are!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Will I go again? You bet!  Does this replace Vegas? No, but I will go to Vegas less frequently.

~XOXO~
*All opinions are mine. I am not affiliated with this resort or it's partners in anyway.

Shop Handmade: TrishAlan Designs

Our much anticipated 'Shop Handmade' feature posts are back for 2011!!! We can't wait to share a sneak peek behind the scenes of some of Brisbane's best handmade and indie stores.  This week we caught up with Trish Goodfield, the creative mind behind TrishAlan Designs.

The Shop

Where did the name TrishAlan Designs come from?
From my first name plus my husbands first name, Alan. Note who got first billing.

Tell us a little about your background and what path led you to open TrishAlan Designs?
I worked for 'Not-for-Profits' in both disability and aged care for 20+ years before we opened TrishAlan Designs.  The path was long and meandering.  Pre-Alan years I crafted and sold via consignment and markets.  Alan also has a creative streak so he was doing his own thing during this time.  Together we planned to start a craft business but had no idea what style, format, anything really; we just knew it would happen. While we were waiting we did all the boring stuff like paying off credit cards, the house etc so that we would be ready when the time came. Alan got fed up with his job first so he started selling his designs via regular markets while I continued working.  When we opened the shop I dropped back to part time and contract work.  This gave us time to consolidate our plans, products and finances.  With little prompting from Alan I came on board full-time in 2004.

Needlework

Tell us what TrishAlan Designs is all about?
TrishAlan Designs creates hand dyed fabric and threads, needlework charts and kits, and Kumihimo supplies and accessories.  We also conduct craft classes, train craft teachers based on my book "How to Teach Art & Craft" and mentor business owners.  Alan and I also make one-off items made from recycled and repurposed timber and fabric.  When we started the business we made a commitment to ourselves that our point of difference to the other shops around us would be only selling what we make.  At times this has been a struggle, however, we are still committed to this approach.

Hand Dyed Threads

Hand Dyed Fabric

How does TrishAlan Designs support independent artists and crafters and/or the handmade community?
Over the last few years we have had an increasing number of creative people seeking us out for hints and tips on starting a craft business.  Initially we assisted free of charge, however, a large percentage of people failed to take action. Since we introduced a nominal fee for this service not only has the demand increased but individuals are taking action toward their goals.  Perhaps paying for the mentoring has increased their perceived value of the service.  I also actively promote indie artists and crafters via my weekly art/craft magazine column.  Interviewing other creatives is my favourite part of writing the column. I learn so much.

Classes at TrishAlan Designs

What does a typical day at work involve for you?
There is no such thing as a typical day.  The one thing that I try to do is focus on actions linked to achieving our goals. I don't believe in 'to do lists', they are just filled with tasks that rarely move you forward in a real sense. I list actions in my diary like other people make appointments.  It keeps me focused and every day is therefore different.  The mundane, repetitive and boring simply don't make it into my day.  It doesn't mean that I enjoy everything I need to do but it does mean that we are moving in the right direction.

How do you promote TrishAlan Designs?
In my diary I make an appointment to do at least 1 promotional activity per day.  This doesn't necessarily mean allocating a big chunk of time.  Answering these questions is my activity for today.  It might be emailing a press release or interviewing somebody for my column.  Little steps add up to big jumps when you add them together.  I have a blog, twitter and facebook page all of which are much focused on TrishAlan Designs and Trish Goodfield.  This could take heaps of time but they are all linked so one activity reaches all 3.  I also schedule posts etc. so I'm managing my time well.  I'm rarely at the computer when my little words of wisdom flash into your newsfeed.  My weekly art/craft column has promoted us more than I ever could have imagined.  Not only do I get at least half a page of free advertising every week but it has increased my personal profile and the business profile immeasurably. Promoting your business doesn’t need to be expensive there is lots you can do for low cost; think about how you dress when doing a market, the words you use to describe what you do to others, packaging, submitting project/items to magazines, entering competitions etc all come together to form a picture of you and your business. We haven’t always got it right but we just try again until something sticks.

What is your favourite item in the shop at the moment?
That’s easy; it’s always the last thing I made. At the moment that is the Kumihimo Necklaces and Handfasting Braids.

Wedding Braid

What's in store for TrishAlan Designs in 2011 and beyond?
I’m currently working on my second book exploring the phenomenon of the Etsy Street Teams. The first one is focusing on BrisStyle and the craft artists who make up its membership base. Hopefully this will be the first of many as other Etsy Street Teams seek to be involved.

The passion of knitting

I contact some canadian knitters for whom knitting is a passion and I ask them three questions.  I hope you'll find some inspiration like I did!

Gabriele from Fluur

Why do you like knitting?

Well, I did ask that myself a long time ago and found out that it relaxes me. Like kneading dough. Little repeating things.

Your best advice for a beginner?

I would recommend a non-expensive yarn and medium sized needles.

Reason: beginners usually are tense. Too big or too small needles would enhance that probably, giving the learner the feeling of frustration rather than success.

A website (or a book) you can recommend?

I learned to knit and crochet when I was 6 years old and must admit that I don't know any website for knitting nor a book.

Jacqueline from jacquelineknits

Why do you like knitting?

I like knitting because it gives me something to do while I watch TV or listen to music. That way, I don't feel 'guilty' if I sit in front of the TV for a couple of hours, as I've got something productive to show for it!

Your best advice for a beginner?

Best advice for beginners is to pick a small item that can be completed quickly, like a coaster or a bookmark. Forget about trying to do a scarf, as most new knitters will get frustrated with the amount of time it's taking to complete.

A website (or a book) you can recommend?

Favourite website is yarnharlot.ca.

Thank you so much for sharing!!!  I just love both of your shops!!!
