Fashion Bag Papercraft "Sac Mode"

Fashion Bag Papercraft Related to Agence Eureka's Shopgirl Bag "Sac Midinette", this fashion bagfashion bag was based on the Zazous fad in France during the 1940s.

Zazou refers to clothing style/hipsters of 1940s France, similar to the Zoot suit fad in America. Ooops, Zazou would be on the next post, after Agence Eureka finds it :)

Slotted Building Discs

While reading the December issue of Art Forum Magazine, I came across a brilliant Damián Ortega sculpture made of tortillas.  Of course I immediately wished I could play with them.  So I scanned some recent collage circles I'd made, printed them out, and made these building discs.  It's surprisingly tricky to build with them, but amazingly addicting.  If you have older kids, they will definitely be challenged.  Jack and Tess are having a great time with them too, but their structures are much more simple.

If you'd like to make some, you can download and print out my template at the bottom.  My photo paper wasn't very thick, so I used a glue stick to glue a sheet of yellow construction paper on the back.  Then after it dried I cut them out with scissors.  They are surprisingly sturdy with the extra paper on the back.  I think they'll last quite a while.

I also took some sandpaper to an old circular candy tin, and they fit in there perfectly. I'll definitely take them next time we go to a restaurant.

Gogo's Crazy Bones - A Mother's New Weapon (and tutorial)!

3281247876_551850d970

Have you seen these? I was not familiar with these little guys until I read this post from Hopestudios. After reading her post about these little Gogo's, I thought to myself, "My Max would love these. He is so into little figures, this is right up his alley." Well, I was right. He is now crazy for these little guys. In fact, so crazy, I now have a personal slave. He will do anything for a dollar so he can buy more.

3281242206_320ef2210d

Did I mention they are cheap? They average $1 a piece and come in 3 packs and 4 packs.  My local Wal-Mart is not carrying them yet but Toys-R-Us had the 5 packs- buy one get one 1/2 off. So I loaded up for lots of bribery! **Make sure you buy the book, it gives game directions and has a place for stickers**

I also made this cute little bag for Max to keep them in and a tutorial just for you! ENJOY!!

Supplies:
Square of fabric (whatever size you want)
2 lengths of ribbon/string/shoelace etc.
Clear Nail Polish (if u use ribbon that unravels at the ends)
Sewing Machine
Iron & Iron Board (optional)

IMG_0090

Step One:
Cut a square of fabric (or rectangle etc.). Yes, I could have used something more manly, but this was a scrap!

Step Two:
Iron a small hem (1/8-1/4") on what will be the sides of your bag. I do this to avoid using pins and so my side hem will not un-crease when I am sewing. Then crease this again and iron (this will hid any unfinished edges). Stitch.

IMG_0092

IMG_0097

Step Three:
After both sides have been finished, we will now make a pocket for the drawstring. Do the same at the top of the bag that your did with the sides. Make sure your pocket is wide enough for the ribbon to flow through. Also, I use a safety pin to thread my ribbon, so make sure it's wide enough for this also. Stitch

IMG_0098

Step Four:
Now it is time to put your bag together. Turn your fabric inside out and start to stich the sides right below the ribbon pockets you created in step three. You are going to leave the ends open of the top ribbon pocket.

IMG_0101

Step Five:
Now you are ready to thread your drawstring. You will need two equal lengths. Hold up your drawstring to the top of the bag and look at how much you will need. The drawstring will be double looped and knotted, so be sure to have plenty. You can always trim it down. Once your drawstrings are cut, I use a safety pin to thread them around. You will need to alternate the opening for each string.

IMG_0103

IMG_0104

Step Six:
I am a terrible teacher and you have my permission to curse my name if my instructions do not work!! Just remember you are sewing a pillowcase type bag. You just have to remember to leave the top open for the drawstring. I used clear nail polish for the ribbon ends to keep them from unraveling.

Can you see the look on his face while he opens a new pack of Gogo's Crazy Bones? Priceless!

Now, I am exhausted! This was the longest post...Ev'A!!

weekend inspiration...

...dreamy whites...

...also known as 'you all that' as inspired by dottie angel's embroidered words... ;)

...soft shades ~ cream, milky white, beige, taupe, softest grey, silver, hints of sage and ochre...
...textures ~ smooth, soft, natural materials, linen, cotton, silk, bamboo, wood, stone, aged surfaces, peeling paint, rusting metal...

...1. bailiwickdesigns, 2. Dewberry Parfum ♥ ♥, 3. threekusjes, 4. Alice M. Wingerden, 5. dottie angel, 6. ishtar olivera, 7. *mayxxx*, 8. wood & wool stool, 9. ivy style33...

...it's good to occasionally cleanse the colour palette with beautiful white shades, wipe the slate clean as they say and find a fresh new perspective...
...but as we all know white is never just one shade or one colour, is it!?
...something that paint manufacturers know all too well, which is great really as there is something so compulsive about collecting their wee swatch cards ~ i know you all know what i'm talking about... ;)

...which is why i was kinda excited about this colour palette generator, yeah i know i'm a bit slow on the uptake as it has been around for forever, but hey! better late than never... ;)

...i just love the names of all these colours, i can't decide if my favourite is 'black squeeze' or 'pearl bush'...
...and what better way to waste an hour or so on a dreary friday afternoon!?

...wishing you all a wonderful weekend... :)

Seven things + Vintage Bird + Uppercase

I found this wonderful 1972 hard cover pictorial bird encyclopedia last week. I will be getting very cosy with it - asap.  Aside from this, I am going to actually just try and relax this weekend. But! before I go.... as promised, and as part of the Kreative Blog Award I recieved from the awesome Catarina of bichos da matos, here are seven things about me.  I'm sorry I think I suck at this...

I love jazz. I just love, love, love, love, love, love, love, it! There you go.
I hate wearing gloves. Just hate it. My hands feel hot, and tight:  as if they will self combust. It's terrible.
My favourite perfumes are Agent Provocateur, Coco Chanel, and Fracas.
I don't understand G-strings. Sorry, but what the?
I have never seen anyone wear bright yellow and look good. ha ha ha. True!
I don't read books. Okay, I read, rarely. I can't relax enough to read a book. It's some sort of disease I think.
My favourite shape at the moment is the triangle.
And now I would like to pass this Kreative Blog award to Carmel, Belinda, Kylie, KayJessica, Susie, and Colleen. You're all lovely. Thanks Catarina, I actually really enjoyed this! xo   Before I go, I have some awesome news! One of my Fox pieces has been accepted for publication in the next Uppercase issue. I can't wait to have it in my hot little hands and see it!  Hope you're all having the best time - and hi Carmel! xo

D.N.Angel: Hiwatari Satoshi

d.n.angel cosplay - hiwatari satoshiThe police commander in charge of capturing Dark, Satoshi graduated from high school at the age of 8, and college at the age of 13. He enrolled in Daisuke’s middle school as he knew Diasuke was Dark’s alter ego. Although most people find him cold and distant, Daisuke insisted that they become friends.

This is Hagaren, the same cosplayer as X/1999’s Monou Fuma. When I first saw this on Deviant Art, I immediately fell in love with the photo, so I had to feature it here!

Important Announcement!

Zunari Kabuto Papercraft (Samurai Helmet)

Zunari Kabuto Papercraft A zunari-type kabuto papercraft (head-shaped samurai helmet) by the Honda Museum in Ishikawa Prefecture, Japan.

This particular Honda Museum is not related to the big motor company but instead is a specialty museum that houses artifacts from the Honda clan - a very important (historical) Japanese family.

The samurais of those times found their kabutos boring so they added masks, visors, or face guards shaped into the likeness of supernatural beings, such as demons, to intimidate their enemies.

This kabuto papercraft has a beak-shaped face guard to resemble a Kappa.
