Departure Lounge 1971

Yes, we have a NEW work. It's fresh off the printer, and it's titled "Departure Lounge 1971" of course it has to have a year!  It's kind of on the sexy side we think.  Bouffant hairstyles, panda eyes, big lapels, silk pussy bow shirts, cigar smoking, martini drinking, glasses clinking with ice, giant oversized sunglasses for sure! And we could amuse ourselves for a full day here with other images, but we know you don't have that long to read.... so.... we will leave the images to your rampant imaginations! the print can be purchased here.

Nightshade

It's so cold in the country - so much colder than the city, but I do love it. There's a certain freshness in the air, and that smell of a wet and decomposing autumn.  The gum trees look beautiful in the morning with the dappled sunshine coming through, and it looks like most of our trees have buds - the promise of Spring for sure! I can't wait to see if any are flowering.... I'm totally in love here.  Jase and I have been busy pulling apart our kitchen. It's rewarding learning, and wonderful to see the slow, but sure transformation. The other day I dug this lamp out of our studio (amongst the many still unpacked items) and it now resides on our fridge in the kitchen. Such a wonderful additional light! It's definately my favourite corner of the house right now.

And the play with the new symbols continues. This is a bit of an extension in some ways.... It's called "Nightshade" and the title is courtesy of the rather ace Mr Jase! (ha! that rhymes - sorry).  I imagine it larger than life printed as a giclee on linen. Might have to get me one of those!  More later in the week-  we hope you're all having fun. xo

one million

one million. could be one million voices, leaves, moments, thoughts, sentences, paragraphs, or ideas. The title hasn't been decided - yet. That's coming, but this is a NEW work, soon to hit the stands as a Giclee print, and possibly something else? Will see.  I've been in the house all day working on the computer, while Jase has been enjoying the shops, sunshine, outdoors, and running inaluxe errands. We are both having fun, and hope that your Friday is as relaxing and productive as you'd like it to be. Have a super weekend all! I promise a proper explanation of the inaluxe changes, and a real intro to Jason next week.

+ seeing as winter has definately arrived, here's my idea of what 'perfect snow' would look like - sort of.  I played around with this piece today, and it makes me smile.  Now it's off to do some baking - gotta keep those fingers warm somehow!

symbols continued

And here's one more work (for now) in the symbols range. Not sure which I like better - the first version of "echo chamber of commerce" (see post below) or this version of it.  In other news? We got our first water bill today. We nearly passed out when we saw the amount. It costs a good five times more in the country compared to the city.  Apparently Grampians Water tell me this is what the Government say they can charge, so they do, and apparently it's cheaper in the city because there are more people in the city.  I'm beginning to understand (first hand) some of the challenges people in the country face. On that note, I'm off to have a cup of tea. Although buying a bottle of coke would be cheaper!

symbols (for organisations that should've existed)

From my last post you can see I've been busy with new shapes, and pattern.  Jason said they look like "symbols for organisations that should've existed..." and I instantly saw what he meant by that. So much so, it has inspired a new series of work, titled just that " symbols for organisations that should've existed."  within this series each work will be an organisation... like the two below - first of many draft ideas, until we decide which ones will make the final cut!  It's all very fun working on these.

This one is titled "the midnight lovers" It's an Association set up for people who feel compelled to engage in extra marital affairs. Ha! well, ok, maybe not that, but it is titled "the midnight lovers" what happens in this association is probably more like listening to jazz wearing lots of black, smoking like it's going out of style - think 1950's 1960's. For fine lovers all over.... midnight lovers!

This one it titled "echo chamber (of commerce)" where there's a whole lot of yibber yabber, without much actually getting completed due to the overwhelming echo of everyone speaking over each other. So many smart people, who largely lack in the listening department. Ha!

These are the first two to go in the set to whittle down. We are thinking postcards, with a few making it into print format. Hope you're all having a blast of a time! We are working on the house today. Pulling down some old exterior plastic roller blinds, and hopefully planting some more of the garden. xo later dudes (and dudettes).

four leaf + blanket magazine

Hmmmmm.... the week so far. Work, work, and well, not much else to speak of, except I did get a shock last night when I got an email from Bec at Blanket Magazine letting me know my submission for the 2010 calendar was successful. I really didn't think I'd gotten through, as the announcement date was last Friday I figured I missed this one.

So here's a very big, (happiness in abundance) woo-hoo! :)  It's nice to have some cheer, it's been a hard month around here, so it's very nice news.

I will write more over the next few days, and I really do need to update my etsy shop with some new card designs, and goodies, which I haven't had a chance to put up. I'll be working into the late evenings I think!

Here's a design that is doing my head in. I'm struggling with it, but I love the simple liner aspect of this shape (brush work and gouache) and the repeat pattern. It started out as a four leaf clover - my version. I will still call it four leaf clover, but whether it ever sees the light of day as a finished piece is something I cannot say.

A work in progress.  Love you all, and looking forward to some more blog reading time too!

for the love of r e d

below is an idea I've been working on - it's all to do with tattoos, fabric, and well, psychadelic pattern. I have way too many projects going on at the moment, but I am enjoying this zig zag process. Sometimes you've got to go sideways to get to your destination - but then, who actually cares about the end of the road? It's the journey! the journey that matters!

nest pattern series

Nest pattern.
I can't get enough of this new series I've just started. It is so much fun - I can't think of the last time I felt so inspired, and had so much fun! The two images above are seperate works. You can buy these in my etsy shop. woo-hoo!

Botanika

I've admired the pattern since I was a child. If you're a Croatian woman, one thing you are taught from a young age is the glory of the pattern.  Flowers, leaves, all manner of plants - primitive beautiful forms. Unlike painting them, these had to be tediously applied to metres and metres of hand woven hemp. Super fine, dense needlework.  I have some of these passed down in my family. They are as striking and perfect today as they were fifty years ago. I've never had the patience for such detailed embroidery - But I have always loved paint.  This reminds me of my grandmothers.

Jazz Flute

There's nothing that soothes the savage beast like a jazz flute. I'm all jazzed out, but it was good. Very good. So good, that I created two new gouache pieces.  Little ones.  The kind you wanna get up close and personal with. You can almost taste it!  Just like a jazz flute, but in gouache. Yummy!

Meditation

I had a some bad news from my mum earlier today, which is now bothering me, and I wish I could do something to help, but it's one of those things: I can't change the situation,  so I guess when life gives you lemons - paint!  And this is exactly what I did.

I've had a long fascination with repeat pattern, and wallpaper. Aside from the obvious graphic (and at times geometric) qualities they possess, there's another way in which I see them.  I've been meaning to do some work exploring these ideas for maybe a year now, and it's been on my mind for ages. I'd paint in my head, and see the work before my eyes, but as always - once actually realised, the work takes on a different look - which I love actually. No matter how much I plan, it goes askew. It is nice to be surprised by your own creations.  Here are a few photos.
