inaluxe + real living

I was surprised to hear from friends that real living featured inaluxe on two pages in their July issue. It was quite exciting and something to look forward to seeing, so as soon as the magazine came out we went and bought it. Unfortunately we did not get a mention. I'm not sure how this happens - use of art work for publication without acknowledgement or contact. Oh well. More from us soon! 

inaluxe in uppercase + real living

Amidst the move, two lovely things happened - my Uppercase Issue 5 arrived, and extra goodness came via a surprise! It was really great seeing the inaluxe foxes in print (a full page spread in Uppercase - so ace!) and 'Eternal Forest' made it into the June issue of Real Living Magazine! No way.... so exciting. Thank you to Evie for emailing me about it, and letting me know - I had no idea! 

In other news - It's cold here, and the week back at inaluxe HQ has been hectic. Mostly as we are still finding our way around this maze of a house, and well, it's a bit of a culture shock all round. New home, new town, new people, new work space, etc. Absolutely can't wait to get stuck into some new designs and illustrations. This weekend for sure.  I've also been working on the blog, don't be surprised if it changes again.  Better get back to it. :)

thursday love

Hello, and huge big thank you to every single person who has shared in the celebration of our new home. We are off tomorrow to paint the place, and will have friends looking after this house and our poochie while we are away, so at least the Kibikibi will be a little more rested, rather than enduring the long drives to the new house and back.... now I'm just blabbing. Sorry.  I'm tired I think. Will be back on Sunday, but as I can't do Friday or Saturday finds, here is something sweet for Thursday Love instead!

Yellow by Erin Tyner is how I feel at the moment. Looking out into the wilderness - it's exciting, but all kind of foggy too. Where am I going? What am I doing? What colour will the florr be? Hmmmm..... lots of house questions, but also some live changing going on here too. Big tree change! I love Erin's work. It's so tactile, and so emotive - and really gorgeous.

A big warm thank you to the very talented Virginia for doing the super cool "five things with inaluxe" mini interview. Virginia does these incredibly detailed and gorgeous illustrations.... and has an Etsy  shop where  you can see more of her amazing work.  One of my favourites from Virginia's shop is pictured below.

the beauty of thumbs

I think I'm in love - no, I know I'm in love! Just look at the beautiful colours and design in this incredible book by John Hersey. God, I so want one! Titled "Thumb War" limited edition of 100 - 36 glorious pages with 27 illustrations. The book is hand-bound and letterpress printed in two colors using a Vandercook 4 at San Francisco Center for the Book. The covers are laser-cut into finish grade plywood, with a small number of them laser-cut into chipboard. Get yours here ----> imprintsfcb Soooooo good!

Show & Tell + Kreative Award

Lovely news to share today...

Susie from flowerpress has a 'show and tell' feature on her blog, and I'm the first test subject guinea pig. :) It was so lovely to be asked, and it was a lot of fun answering the questions, and neatening up my studio for one little photo that I took! ha ha! Check it out in full here -----> show and tell interview  Susie's blog is fabulous, and she makes these amazing screenprinted textiles, as well as luscious prints. I'm very flattered. I'm smiling happy.

Here's one of the photos I took for the feature. It's a little corner of my studio. I love it here. 

And how cool?! I have an award too.  The "Kreative Blog Award" from the lovely Catarina from bichos da matos .  Part of the award means, I have to share seven things about myself and pass this award on to seven blogs.... this one will take a bit of time, but not too long - I promise. Way fun, and Catarina is way excellent!

In the Blanket 2010 Calendar + Issue 19

I was delighted to wake this morning and find that Issue 19 (The Holiday Issue) of Blanket Magazine was up and ready for viewing. I was actually a little bit 'extra' excited because my submission for the calendar was successful. So, here is a little snippet of it - I'm January. Now I just need to move to Europe!  I miss winter, and snow.  So much.

Can't thank Blanket enough for all the hard work, passion and commitment that goes into the magazine. They rock!  Like their magazine, the website, blog and shop are all beautiful to look at.

four leaf + blanket magazine

Hmmmmm.... the week so far. Work, work, and well, not much else to speak of, except I did get a shock last night when I got an email from Bec at Blanket Magazine letting me know my submission for the 2010 calendar was successful. I really didn't think I'd gotten through, as the announcement date was last Friday I figured I missed this one.  

So here's a very big, (happiness in abundance) woo-hoo! :)  It's nice to have some cheer, it's been a hard month around here, so it's very nice news.

I will write more over the next few days, and I really do need to update my etsy shop with some new card designs, and goodies, which I haven't had a chance to put up. I'll be working into the late evenings I think!

Here's a design that is doing my head in. I'm struggling with it, but I love the simple liner aspect of this shape (brush work and gouache) and the repeat pattern. It started out as a four leaf clover - my version. I will still call it four leaf clover, but whether it ever sees the light of day as a finished piece is something I cannot say.

my frisky garden and shredding the evidence

Well, it's Friday, and that means weekly photo collage!

This week, we have 'frisky garden action' and 'destroying evidence'.

Our Flanders poppies popped out this week, and these are the first two.  Since this photo was taken about 10 more have come out! I love these flowers. It's that black in the inner with the red that's so striking. Some appear to have delicate white rings around the tops too.... interesting.

I did some mosaic last Saturday.  It was a stinking hot day, and the grout was drying fast - but I had the best time. I'd been hanging onto these little tiles and mirror pieces for years.  I love the white and red and that turquoise, mint combination. The mirrors, well, how could I not put mirrors in!

This poor chewed up toy is one of Kibi's friends. She has quite a few now, and Jase hates the idea that she's destroying something that resembles an animal, or person. so we went shopping! and she has loads of soft fabric bones, long sausage like things, and fluffy shapes to play with. Nothing with eyes! ha ha. 'No name'  now lives on the ledge with the oregano. I don't know why, but I think it is delightful.

Last but not least, I found one of my old journal / diaries, and oh-my-goodness - how is it possible for one person to write so much crap?! love this, pain that, self pity this, longing that.... yuk yuk yuk!

I was embarassed in my own presence, and the thought of having to come across this again, or (worse), someone else find it, was enough to give me a instant pain in the chest, so I very efficiently, and with great haste, cut up all the pieces, and sent them off to the bin.  I know there are more lurking around here - quietly hiding on bookshelves, in boxes... my aim is to find them all, and destroy them without delay.

I'll finish up or now, and get into some art work and relaxing gardening weekend, but I wanted to say thank you to Deborah from kickcanandconkers for the lovely surprise write up about inaluxe on her blog. Totally made my day, and what an inspiring and fun blog. I love it. Awesome reading, and a real visual feast!

And a big thank you to Amanda Fuller from Calico & Co for the spoltlight feature on inaluxe earlier this month. I have to admit, I get a bit shy about writing about features these days, and tend to put them in a link to the side, but I like the fact that we can share each others blogs these ways, and I also like to thank the person who has done the feature. It is important to me, and it's a really lovely thing! Amanda is an Australian based Graphic Designer, she's nice as, and she has such a passion for Art! Her blog is rockin' - check it out! :)

Inaluxe in Craft Magazine

Yay! inaluxe in Craft Magazine.  There is a double page Etsy spread with inaluxe on the lower right hand corner as etsy 'featured seller'.

Inaluxe features on Indie Pretty Perfect

It's a pretty perfect start to the weekend to see inaluxe featured on IndiePrettyPerfect :)

I got a lovely email from Helen who has this fab website and store PepperinaPress asking if I'd be interested in being featured on indie pretty perfect. I was thrilled at being asked, and I have to say, I really like the way the interview came out. It was a
good day to be answering questions, and I was really quite relaxed about the whole process, which is slightly different to the shock of being Etsy Featured Seller for a week - that was really mindboggling... I think because I had so much other stuff going on at the time, it felt rushed and maybe I just wans't as relaxed as this time around... Anyway, maybe have a read and see what you think.
