everyone loves a giveaway!

Earlier this year Jason and I were frantically working away on 8 card designs for Earth Greetings.
It was pretty nuts around here - there were birds hanging from the ceiling (read: paper painted ones) four million books on Australian Flora and native wildlife, and our dining table was no longer for eating - it was all paint, paint and more paint. We had a blast - and these are the designs that came out of it all. (Plus a wrap paper utilising the design in the second card from the left top row).

Aside from the great fun we had with the design process, we are really thrilled knowing these are printed carbon neutral, with vegetable dyes, on 100% recycled paper, and they are made in Australia. And Earth Greetings made it all happen! These are now available - for stockists, please see the Earth Greetings website.

But wait - the Giveaway!  One of our favourite blogs "notes to a further excuse" is one year old! and celebrating with a giveaway!  One random winner will recieve a super Earth Greetings pack, which includes the 8 inaluxe card set below, wrapping paper, and 4 gorgeous screen printed notebooks. To enter just use this link here -  g i v e a w a y    Happy Birthday "notes to a further excuse"  x

For Cod and Country
by Barton Seaver

My Review:

From the Publisher:
Even though there are hundreds of types of fish for sale, most chefs know only a few varieties. That's where Barton Seaver comes in with his unique approach: By combining all manner of fish (not just the familiar standbys) with loads of fresh vegetables, he fosters sustainability both in the sea and on the farm. Organized by season, For Cod and Country features only fish caught in those months (plus “a fifth season” for farmed fish), along with ideas for preparation, seasonings, and lists of alternate fish to substitute in inventive new dishes.

BARTON SEAVER has created three highly rated restaurants in WASHINGTON, DC. Seaver has been lauded as a leader in sustainability by Seafood Choices Alliance, was named a Fellow with the Blue Ocean Institute, and works with the Ocean Now program at the National Geographic Society to influence large corporations and consumers toward a more responsible and sustainable sourcing ethic. He is currently working on a television series entitled Turing the Tide for National Geographic. Learn more about him at http://www.bartonseaver.org and http://www.forcodandcountry.org.

Little White Lies

WIN!  Tickets to Little White Lies!

Guillaume Canet has assembled an outstanding cast of some of France's finest actors - headed by Academy Award-winning Marion Cotillard - to make an entertaining and acutely observed drama of manners. A group gathering is hosted every year by a couple at their beautiful beach house where they kick-off their summer vacation by celebrating the birthday of one of the gang. Fun, fine wine and seafood mix with sun and sand as they all leave their city stresses and inhibitions behind.

But this year is different. One of them is badly injured in a serious motorcycle accident just as they are about to leave Paris for their seaside reunion. His friends flock to his bedside, where their unconscious pal is still alive but in intensive care. What to do? Stay in Paris to be by his side, or leave for their vacation having been assured that there is nothing they can do? By the time they return he should be conscious and up for visitors. After some intense discussion, they decide to head off for enjoyment and relaxation. Over the course of the next week, all the tensions within this group erupt into full daylight.

Through a succession of incidents, the group is pulled apart and dragged together by their ties of loyalty and marriage. Their relationships, convictions, sense of guilt and friendship are sorely tested. They are finally forced to own up to the little white lies they have been telling each other.

Thanks to Hopscotch Films, BrisStyle has

the whistlers

Lots of new birds works in the making this last few weeks! Our work space is literally decorated with bird paintings that hang in massive numbers, providing us with much colour and daily joy! We will add more soon, but here are the first from the new series. Inspired largely by the Australian White Breasted Whistler... so many birds, so little time!

And just before we say bye and wish you a lovely weekend, stay tuned for another super inaluxe giveaway! This week! YAY! We were going to post it earlier, but work has not given us much time, and a giveaway does require a bit of work, and ought to be fun!

Have a great weekend xo K+J.

Mastermind game giveaway

First of all... Math Teachers at Play 34 is online... go check out the posts!

Then... I'm doing a giveaway again... one of you, my readers, can be a lucky one to win a free Mastermind board game!

Update: The winner is now chosen, the third commenter below, named Äiti. This went quick!!!!!! Comments are therefore closed.

The lady who contacted me about it said that many of today's adults actually KNOW the game from their childhood, but don't know it's still available.

I haven't played it as a child, but a few years ago I found Mastermind online (on several math games websites), and I found I like it!

This is how Mastermind works:
You need to guess the "secret code" of colored pegs: both the color and the order they are in. You make a guess, and your opponent (or computer) tells you some clues. A black clue means you got one peg the right color AND in the right position, whereas a white clue means you got a peg with right color in the wrong position.

It's basically a logic game... you need to think logically about your guesses and the given clues.

Go play it online here (against the computer) at National Library of Virtual Manipulatives. This version is nice, as it allows you to limit the number of colors, which is helpful for new players or small children.

How to take part?
Simply leave a comment to this blogpost. Follow my blog and once you see I've chosen the winner, the winner needs to contact me with their contact and shipping info. This giveaway runs until I have 10 comments OR January 31, whichever happens first.

From Seed to Skillet **GiVeAwAy**

**Giveaway**

seed-to-skillet-web

From Seed to Skillet
by Jimmy Williams & Susan Heeger
ISBN: 978-0-8118-7221-8

My Review:

From the Publisher:
Jimmy Williams learned all about vegetable gardening at the knee of his grandmother, a South Carolina native from a traditional Gullah community whose members were descendents of Caribbean slaves. He pays homage to his family history in this inspiring step-by-step guide to designing and planting a backyard vegetable garden and growing one's own food. With this essential garden manual, home gardeners can learn how easy it is to plan a garden, design and construct growing beds, tend the crop without using harmful chemicals, harvest gorgeous vegetables, and cook a delicious feast using Jimmy's favorite family recipes.

Urban farmer and landscape designer Jimmy Williams oversees his growing grounds, plants edible gardens for clients, and dispenses cultivation and cooking tips, plus vegetable, herb, and fruit seedlings, at three Los Angeles farmers' markets. He grows and sells heirloom tomatoes from seeds that have been passed down from his great-great-grandmother.

Susan Heeger is a long-time magazine and newspaper feature writer with a specialty in garden, design, home, lifestyle, and food stories. She lives in Los Angeles.
