i miss my book

Many years ago someone from art school borrowed my Joan Miro book. It never made it back to me.  The thing is,  I can't for the life of me remember who borrowed it.   I like to think of it now as a global traveller, and a much loved book.  But perhaps it is time for me to indulge and buy a new one?  Miro was a huge inspiration, and remains so. He changed not only my view of art, but life - and that's where it all starts.  His work is incredible.

the gorgeous art of David Band

It's Friday, and while looking forward to the weekend, I also find myself a little reflective with news of the recent loss of David Band.  I could give a full biography of David's work, but instead, I find this much more personal when carried out by the individual. For information on David Band's life, and work,  please see David Band  It's a wonderful site.

What I will say is that while I never met David Band myself, I feel such a connection to his work.  I think this feeling is universal, and people are instantly warmed, and delighted when looking at his art.  'Endless' is a word that comes to mind when thinking of David's work. It's so many things - not just uplifting or gorgeously beautiful, but it's layered, and tells a story. The curve of his lines, shapes, what he chose to leave in, and not reveal are all key to what makes the work so subline, and classic. A few favourites below - images from David Band   It's amazing how one person can touch so many, not ever having met. We will miss him.

Julian Newman

Have been meaning to share the work of Julian Newman for ages now -- life just has a way of putting too much in our day! but it has to be said Julian is not only one of the loveliest people we know, but an amazing artist, with a gorgeous feel for colour, texture, and a voice so unique and his own. His work makes us feel like going on a great big adventure. There's this beautiful reflective and deep quality in the art - such lovely eye candy.  To see more of Julian's work check out his website, and you can buy  Julian's work on Redbubble All sorts of lovely - from cards, matted prints to canvas prints.  Aren't the colours just so amazing.

Sandra Eterovic

We're both big fans of Sandra Eterovic here! Her work is just so unique, and each piece has a story in it - some are hilarious, some provocative, and like this one, made us smile.  Ahhh relationships!

In other news... we are closing the shop tonight for a few weeks, so the last orders will be packed tomorrow. We had a massive ten days here with renovations going on, so are both looking forward to some quiet down time, and sleeping in!

Hope you all have a great easter break! (if we don't write before then). See you soon.

out to the field

Sunday mornings are great for reading and finding things to tickle your funny bone. I'm really enjoying the work of Esther Pearl Watson  I can't get enough of the spaceship like forms in her paintings - they are fabulous. Her bio on her website is a must read too.

Skipping Girl

Is there anything finer than the feeling we get when we find something amazing? I don't think so - passion for life, and pleasure in new discoveries, be they friends, lovers, or objects is what makes the world go round.  some might say money, but what good is money if you can't experience beauty and fascination? (getting away with myself here) So anyway I found something today that I just love: and yes, I bought it. It reminds me of growing up in the 70's and the giant lit up Skipping Girl billboard in Richmond... way up there in the sky. I loved seeing it - made my day! I suppose I was pretty little, so it was extra amazing. This beautiful work is from GretelGirlDraws. A gorgeous Australian shop definately worth checking out.

on the beach

I'm a fan of Franck Juery's work.  It strikes a chord with me, and while I love talking in general, I'm not much for sharing why I love art work in detail, preferring instead to share the visual experience.  The Franck Juery website is a place where you could easily lose yourself for quite some time. Love it.

mary zeran

Our gorgeous friend and talented artist Mary Zeran is having an exhibition! Unfortunately we are on the other side of the world, and won't be able to make it, but if you're near  Cedar Ridge Winery the show opens on the 23rd of October, from 4:00pm-7:00pm. The show runs from October 18th through November 21st! Lots of time for some art, and vino too! Here are some beautiful postcards and a little painting by Mary! She's also one of the lovelist people. True. So gorgeous.

Kisses and hugs Mary - have a fabulous day! And some vino for us too! xo

the marvellous internet

The internet is amazing. So much to see, and so little time. Two new discoveries for us... The work of Ky Anderson, and Victo Ngai. We're so glad we found them - just gorgeousness! Big thank you to the awesome lumper blog for posting about both the artists, and in so doing, we are now all the happier! Jeremy, you rock.

Friday Finds - David Band

The favourite of the week for us is this glorious painting by David Band. I must live in a hole sometimes as I've only just discovered his work. Still, better late than never. At approx $16,000.00 this is not going to be hanging in my lounge any time soon... but I'd buy it in a heartbeat if I could. It's absolutely perfect. Titled "Still Life (Pink Block)" by David Band. You can see more of David's work here.  Have a great weekend everyone... :)

Gretchenmist

One of the loveliest surprises Jason and I recieved since moving into our new home was this extraordinary package of goodies from Belinda of Gretchenmist.  We have them tucked away safely for now, but we look at them regularly, and it's hard to pick a favourite. Luckily, we are allowed to admire them all equally, and don't need to fight over who gets which one! ha ha ha. Belinda is one of the loveliest people I have had the pleasure of meeting since blogging and etsy, and as an admirer of her work I am quite humbled to get such amazing gorgeousness as a house warming present.  As well as the shop link above, Belinda also has a sensational blog! Thanks a million Belinda - we love you! xo
