My $10 Habitat Mirror

Picture A

This is the mirror that I blogged about here. I almost did not go back and get this mirror. Boy, am I glad I did. I love it! Did you know that I talk to my furniture? Yes, sometimes I do. It helps me to keep a positive attitude when my “work in progress” is not working so well. If it can go wrong, it usually does. This mirror was no exception. It was sad and neglected but now it is shiny and vibrant. I can’t wait for my next project!

When I bought the mirror, it was falling apart. The mirror was detached from the frame and the backing was torn. First, I started by going to Home Depot (Thanks Danny!) and getting a new back cut. I bought the same material, hardboard. It was $6.49 a sheet and Danny from Home Depot made the cut for me. Instead of doing the fancy outline like the original backing, I just did a simple square. I also bought mirror adhesive (make sure you buy CLEAR. I did not and this caused some problems) and spray paint.

Second, I added adhesive to the frame and placed the mirror on top. I then added the newly bought backing and used clamps to keep it all together. I then decided to add screws. I just felt that the mirror was too heavy not to have screws holding all this together!

Thirdly, I added hanging hardware (75+ pound). This mirror is heavy. Then, I added 3 coats of spray paint. I did not sand or use primer.

I can’t hang my mirror yet. The space I want to use is temporarily unavailable. Unfortunately, what little seasonal decorating I do, is being over-run by this monstrosity of advent.  Is it Valentine’s Day yet?

XOXO-
